Guwahati: The Durga Puja committees of Guwahati celebrated Durga Puja strictly abiding by the COVID protocol. All Durga Puja Committees have decided to have a low key puja celebrations this year. Some of the puja Committees are performed only ‘Ghot Puha’. Most of the puja Committees have reduced the size of the idol by around 50%.
The Assam Government has issued guidelines to cut short the celebration to prevent COVID-19 infection. Many committees in Guwahati which organize Durga Puja every year in a grand way are celebrating a low-key puja. In some of the Puja Pandals in Chandmari Silpukhuri, Maligaon, the celebration was restrained to only religious rituals this year.
The footfalls in most of the Puja Pandals was around 75% less than last year. Covid Protocols and continious rains in various part of the state dampened the festive mood resulting in low footfall.
