Silchar/Aizawl : Officials of the Assam and Mizoram government held talks today to amicably resolve tension along the border between the two states after violence erupted on Saturday night on either side of the border clashed over territory dispute over a Covid testing centre set up by Mizoram officials within territory claimed by Assam. – to sample Mizoram-bound truckers and other people without the permission of the Assam authority.

According to locals of Cachar district of Assam, group of people from Kolasib District of Mizoram came to Lailapur and attacked truck drivers and villagers and burnt several shops and houses. The locals retaliated.
The violence prompted the chief ministers of the two states to brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Ministry regarding the incident. Home minister Amit Shah today telephoned Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga to express “regret” over the clash and assure him of steps to restore the cordial ties between the two neighbours.
